Current genres of electronic music to have achieved fad status (in my mind and in “clubs”): dubstep and grime. This is not to say that these are recent creations, or bad, just that fads tend to be a few years behind the actual “times”. Bass wobble in your face (or also commonly known as: tempo-synced (or not (but usually)) LFOs modulating amplitude and filter frequency cutoff point). Most genres/sub-genres of electronic music emerge by focusing entire songs/pieces/albums on one single sound/characteristic/whatever.
